Cactus Ropes: Right from the First Swing

Posted 03.88.2021 by Admin / Category: Let's Rope

For ropers, time is money, and that first swing is the gamechanger. It’s the magic of that first swing that Cactus Ropes looked to capture when they developed their marquee products: The Future and The Peacemaker ropes.

The minds behind the two top-selling ropes started working to develop the perfect rope in 2016. It started with The Swagger and The Thrilla, which took the company’s CoreTX technology to the next level. Building on the success of both ropes, Cactus worked alongside 26-time PRCA World Champion Trevor Brazile to identify the key features of a rope, and to pinpoint the intricacies of the first swing of the loop.

What came from that year of research was the bright blue rope and the next step in innovation for the first swing.

“The first swing for the header is the most important part of the run,” says Barry Berg, general manager of Cactus Ropes. “If the first swing for the header is not what he is looking for, all of his energy will go to the rope and he doesn’t ride his horse as well as he should. But, if his first swing is absolutely perfect, all that energy goes straight to the horse, and nine times out of ten, the loop will be successful.”

Cactus Ropes strives to make not only the throw, but the whole run easier and more successful for the roper. That is why Berg and the Cactus Rope development team tests the company’s ropes against the hardest conditions with the toughest steers. Relying on the experience of Brazile and other leading ropers, Cactus Ropes works to be the rope for professionals and has done so for more than 30 years.

The Cactus team takes pride in blending traditional team rope-making artistry with technical innovations.

“We want each roper to pick up a rope, stretch it and feel a balanced and perfect first swing every time,” says Berg.
